One Summer

Hello, and welcome back! We're waiting impatiently for cooler days, but it doesn't seem as if Mother Nature is so inclined right now. The lemonade is in constant need of replenishment this summer, but as long as the air conditioner is working, I suppose we'll be fine. I feel awfully bad for those who don't have it, as this summer is one of the hottest we've had here in a few years.

This time out, I have the latest from one of my favorite authors, JoAnn Ross, One Summer
icon (Signet, purchased), and the second book in her 'Shelter Bay' series. In this one, Charity Tiernan crosses paths with former Marine photojournalist Gabriel St. James. Gabe doesn't stay long in any one place, and he doesn't intend to stick around Shelter Bay either, but Charity intrigues him. Not enough to make it permanent, but enough to stick around a little longer than he'd initially planned on staying. Charity hasn't made it to this point in her life without some challenges, but who hasn't? With Gabe, she knows her biggest challenge will be going on with her life after he's left, as he surely will. Add in a troubled teenage boy and his sister as well as the fantastic cast of characters that peoples the town, and you have a lot of things here that will keep you turning pages. Foremost, though, is the complicated relationship that develops between Gabe and Charity, despite his best intentions. Sure, he agreed to an affair as long as he's around. The trouble is, the longer he's with Charity, the less he wants to go, and he knows he needs to go. They share a serious attraction from the first, and it doesn't take long before their simple affair lets emotions get tangled up in it, too. Gabe is a wounded soul of the very best sort: a hero you can't help but fall in love with even though you know he's going to break your heart. I've borrowed four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one. I can't wait till January, when we can get our hands on the next book in this awesome series!

Until next time, happy reading!
