But when a reality show about plus size women appears I feel the need to support it. I watched the chubby version of the bachelor that made women look like broken vessels that could not live without a man and left many thinking we (fat girls) were all suicidal stalkers desperate for a manís love.
TLC is giving the plus size community another shot with Big Sexy. A reality show that follows the lives of five women under thirty-five living their dreams in NYC.
They are all involved with fashion to some extent. There is (left to right in photo) Tiffany Banks the working model, actress and writer; Leslie Medlik the stylist and shopgirl; Audrey Lea Curry the makeup artist and aspiring designer; Heather Roach the bikini designer, and Nikki Gomez the plus size model and photographer.
My overall impression of the first episode is positive. There was a healthy balance of "I was tormented when I was younger" mixed with "my looks are not going to determine how I live my live and whether I enjoy it."
They covered a lot in the first hour episode from modeling to fashion shows and from being in a relationship to speed dating. As well as a special BBW party featuring thunder thigh competitions Ė do not judge Big Sexy by this statement. I freaked a bit at first but it was only a minor blip, one that really should not be ignored, which the women handled tastefully.
If you did not get a chance to watch the first episode I recommend following up and showing your support by taking in the next few episodes.
And if you did watch it and loved it please surf over to their individual Twitter (and Facebook) accounts and offer them some words of encouragement.
