Here's an idea that can be used as a short assignment or as a major project. Ask students to find shapes and lines in their everyday surroundings. The teacher can decide how many of the ideas to use. The assignment can be done on a poster board, construction paper, foldable or regular notebook paper. In class, a simple worksheet with a format similar to what is written below could be done in class or as homework.
Another idea – Let students cut pictures out of magazines and paste them into appropriate categories. Name the shape and characteristics.
