1764 - St. Louis , Missouri was founded today.

1768 - Mustard, a favorite of Benjamin Franklin, was first advertised in America.

1898 - The USS Maine exploded off the coast of Cuba killing over 200 soldiers. This would be one of the factors leading up to the Spanish-American War.

1903 - Morris and Rose Michtom produced the first teddy bear in the U.S.

1932- - The CBS radio show “The Guy Lombardo Show” introduced their new regular performers. Who were they? George Burns and Gracie Allen

Susan B. Anthony social reformer and activist was born in 1820.

Harold Arlen, the composer best known for writing “Over the Rainbow” used in “The Wizard of Oz” was born in 1905.

John Barrymore the legendary actor of such films as “Grand Hotel” was born in 1882.

Alex Borstein the actress/comedian who played the character of Miss Swann on “Mad TV” and appeared in “Bad Santa” was born in 1971.

Chris Farley the actor/comedian who starred on TV’s “Saturday Night Live” and in the movies “Tommy Boy” and “Black Sheep” was born in 1964.

Galileo Galilei the famous Italian astronomer was born in 1564.

Matt Groening, the cartoonist who created “The Simpsons” and “Futurama” was born in 1954.

Harvey Korman the actor/comedian who starred in “Blazing Saddles” and on TV’s “The Carol Burnett Show” was born in 1927.

Melissa Manchester the songstress behind the hit “Don’t Cry Out Loud” was born in 1951.

Renee O’Connor who is probably best known as Xena’s sidekick Gabrielle on the syndicated TV show “Xena: Warrior Princess” was born in 1971.

Cesar Romero who is probably best known for his portrayal of Joker in the 1960s “Batman” TV series was born in 1907.

Jane Seymour, the former Bond girl who starred in TV’s “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman” and in the hit comedy “Wedding Crashers” was born in 1951.

Sir Ernest Shackleton explorer of Antarctica was born in 1874.

Jimmy Spencer, NASCAR champion, was born in 1957.

Charles Lewis Tiffany jeweler and founder of Tiffany & Company was born in 1812.

We Said Goodbye To…

Nat King Cole the legendary voice behind such tunes as “Unforgettable” passed away in 1965 at the age of 45.

Wally Cox who starred on TV’s “Mr. Peepers” and was the voice of the superhero “Underdog” passed away in 1973 at the age of 48.

Ethel Merman the actress/singer who sang the renowned tune “There’s No Business Like Show Business” passed away in 1984 at the age of 76.

Jan Miner who is probably best remembered as Madge from the Palmolive TV commercials passed away in 2004 at the age of 86.

Kevin Smith the actor best remembered as Ares on TV’s “Xena: Warrior Princess” passed away in 2002 at the age of 38.
