One of the first things that made shopping in the United Kingdom (UK) so enticing to me were the shipping costs. Most plus size clothing stores in the UK offer considerably cheaper shipping costs than local stores considering the distance they need to travel. If shipping is not free then it is in the $9 to $12 range (no matter how many items you purchase).
But shipping costs aside, UK stores offer plus size women accessible European style without having to leave our home, or our countries. Here are my top three choices for UK stores that offer plus size clothing:
ASOS Curve - I have ordered from ASOS curve three times already and have been mostly please with everything I have received and the shipping times (2.5 to 3.5 weeks). The only major problem I had was with one skirt when it turned out to be thinner than I expected. Read my site overview of ASOS Curve.
Evans - I have ordered from Evans twice. Once when the Beth Ditto line came out and once during a phenomenal sale. Shipping was pretty speedy (within 2.5 weeks) both times. I did find the clothing fits a little smaller than the ASOS Curve line above. Read my site overview of Evans UK.
Yours Clothing - I have not shopped at Yours Clothing yet but I have read many tweets and blog posts from plus size shoppers who have and are in total love with them. They are definitely on my list for future shopping. Read my site overview of Yours Clothing.
These three UK shopping sites will more than get you started on your European shopping experience if you have not already but bear in mind there are many more out there just waiting to serve your needs.
Added Costs of Shopping Overseas
Some UK stores now offer the option of changing the currency so you can get a better idea of what your actual cost will be but not all UK stores do. I highly recommend using an online currency exchanger while shopping to give an idea of the cost after exchanging pounds to the U.S. dollar but bear in mind that currency is constantly changing and your purchase price may not be exactly the same by the time it is processed by your credit card company. This is not a deterrent by any means, just something to be aware of.
There will almost always be duty charges to receive your items from the UK. Some companies collect them at time of purchase and others allow payment on pick up from the post. To keep your duty costs low try to keep your shopping totals under $200 (not including shipping).
Otherwise have fun shopping overseas. There is a great selection and style to be had and plus size women should take advantage of what the UK has to offer.
