This time out, I have the second in Sophie Gunn’s “Enemy Club” series, Sweet Kiss of Summer (Grand Central, received from publisher). In this installment, artist Nina Stokes meets the man her late brother left his house to. Mick Rivers served with her brother, but the only thing he wants to do with the house he’s inherited is sell it. Until he meets Nina. He doesn’t remember everything she wants to know about her brother, and maybe he doesn’t want to, but one thing he is sure about is that selling the house out from under Nina isn’t what he wants to do. But he can’t tell her everything about himself or even about her brother either. I quite enjoyed the first book in this series, with the interaction between these four women who were the farthest thing from friends all through high school, and have now found their way into the closest of friendships. The support they share with each other is terrific, the sort of relationship many women wish for with their friends, even when they can’t see eye to eye on something–like Mick. This time we get the wounded Mick, whose issues run deep, who may just be more than even Nina can fix, no matter how supportive her best friends can be. Mick has no point of reference for a woman like Nina, but he can’t seem to resist her or the things she makes him feel, no matter how hard he tries. And he doesn’t really want to try. I enjoy this author very much, no matter which name she’s using, and this series is delightful. There are fabulously romantic moments, plenty of lighter scenes and a lot of steam between this pair. What’s not to like? I’m borrowing four of Cupid’s five arrows for this one. It’s a definite keeper.
Until next time, happy reading!
