Hello, and welcome back! It looks like our brief foray into fall might be ending already. I'm going to be really happy when it cools down enough to turn off the air conditioning and open the windows again. We haven't had much opportunity to do that this summer, unfortunately.

This time out, I have the latest from Cherry Adair, Riptide (St. Martin's, purchased), second in her "Cutter Key" series. In this installment, confident, thrill-seeking Nick Cutter is about to meet his match in Princess Bria Visconti, who's equally determined to make him get her the money her brother invested in Nick's latest dive project, one way or another. If she has to go along on the trip, she will, and having her underfoot is an enormous distraction for Nick, who discovers the princess isn't quite as he might have imagined. Sure, she's not traveling in her usual style on his boat, but she's not afraid of anything, and she's gorgeous. Still, the trip is no pleasure cruise, and things turn dangerous when someone else wants in on the action. There's no question that they'll indulge in the attraction that simmers between them from the start, under her anger. It's really only a matter of when and how; we all know it's going to be scorching hot, and Adair doesn't disappoint. Nick is complicated, a flirt, but deadly serious about his work and about keeping Bria safe when danger gets too close. Bria has her own issues to deal with, like a reckless brother and a kingdom in need of cash, but she's smart and resourceful, and when things get sticky, she's a good woman to have as back-up. Sure, they're from completely different worlds, but love has a sneaky way of making the most impossible situations work out just right so couples who shouldn't have a chance actually get their happily ever afters, and you'll be rooting for Bria and Nick to get theirs. I'm borrowing four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Until next time, happy reading!
