This time out, I have the latest from Jayne Castle, aka Jayne Ann Krentz, Canyons of Night (Jove, purchased), the final book in her "Looking Glass" trilogy, and part of her Arcane Society series. In this installment, Charlotte Enright has returned to the small island of Rainshadow to take over the antiques store her aunt has left her. Slade Attridge has come back, too, fifteen years after he'd left, to take over the job of police chief while he plots his next move after his psi senses were fried on his last assignment. One night when they were still on the island as kids, they went into a forbidden area known as the Preserve, and now that they're back, Slade knows something strange is going on there. Charlotte knew everyone thought she was a weird kid, but her ability to read auras lets her know Slade has issues he's keeping secret. When a former client turns up dead in her store's backroom, Slade is on the case, putting them in close contact--which makes her think of her long-ago wishes where he was concerned. And the heat between them now is nothing to sneeze at. Slade's dust bunny Rex is adorable and, as one would expect, integral to them solving their case. I love Castle/Krentz's world of Harmony, and I really enjoyed this new area she's delving into. I hope we get to see more of it in future books. Slade is yummy, wounded or not, and Charlotte is a lucky, lucky woman. I did guess the villain's identity early, but not all the details, though I didn't mind that. I'm borrowing four of Cupid's five arrows for this one.
Until next time, happy reading!
