Researching the Descendants

Genealogy research usually has us examine documents on our ancestors. We are looking for those names, dates and places that refer to birth, marriage, death, land deeds, and much more. But, there are times when we find ourselves looking for descendants, those that are usually still living. Finding them can help us add to our family lines, but also give us someone we can interview for more data on our family histories.

Most of the resources we use to find those who have died, can also assist us in finding information out on the living as well. Below I will list some of those resources that have helped me in discovering descendants on my lines and those I have worked for. Note that some of them have an initial page that is free, but to get more information, there is a subscription. Some want money up front.

First, I must give a word of caution. Privacy is something that is very important to most people. We do not want to stalk and invade otherís lives if they are not wanting us to reach them. Respect their privacy and be careful how you approach them. Do not call them up and immediately start giving out your entire family history and overwhelming them. Start out slow and see if they are responsive. Some may wish to not correspond or talk, and you much accept this and not invade their privacy.
