The time is now for the Presidents Cup with United States and International players to tee off in Australia on November 17-20. It seems it is the United States players against the world different from the Ryder Cup where it is U.S. players against European players. This Presidents Cup is set with captains Greg Norman for the International players and Fred Couples for the Americans. With the event held in Australia I am sure Greg Norman is betting on his team winning and his players are hungry for a win since losing two years ago. He will have five Australian on his team so watch out for a fight for the cup.
This match will take place at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club where the last time the Internationals won in 1994. This also means a lot to the players and they are set for a great match. These Australian players are also very familiar with this course which will make it double hard for the American to pull off a win. It was in the 1998 match that Tiger Woods asked to play against Norman and beat him one up so thirteen years later he says he has no relationship with Tiger even though they live less than a mile apart.
I am sure Norman also wants to beat Tiger for another reason for firing Caddie Steve Williams who is an Australian. For this reason Couples and Norman have put Woods and Williams on the first tee of this match. Williams was fired by Woods last July so Williams now is a caddie for Adam Scott who is an Australian. The captains say this is their way of putting a stop to any more discourse between these two.
Anything to promote interest in the Presidents Cup to draw viewers for this tournament I am sure the people from Australia will flock to this Tournament. We in America will have to check out our television schedule to get an onsite view of this event. It seems strange to me as most of these International players live in America now but fight for their home country in these events. This tournament is exchanged between America and Australia each year and was played in Harding Park in Florida last year.
I do enjoy watching these types of tournaments as the players have to pull together as playing for their country and team mates. Golf is a solo type game in most other tournaments so this makes for some excitement for each group. Like the Ryder Cup which also is a great tournament as players are teamed up to represent their team mates and country.
