Which Cellular Phone is Right for You

There are a lot of choices to consider when choosing your new or replacement cell phone. Choices you must make begin with choosing the carrier and continue the process with reviewing contract details, pricing, plan inclusions and exclusions, overages ….and that is just the beginning. Once you pick a carrier and overall pricing package, you next have to pick a phone. Now, sometimes this process can be reversed if you know what phone you want and it is exclusive to a particular carrier then that choice is made easier.

Phones range from inexpensive to chic designer line phones. The basics are the same – you can make and receive calls, everything else is based on your specific needs and preferences. Most people buy a lot of bells and whistles because the clerk in the store shows you all the “must have” features that everybody is using today. If you don’t know and don’t want to look uninformed or out of date, then you go along nodding your head even though you don’t have a clue what he or she is talking about. Many people will walk away spending a lot more money than they had planned because they bought the phone that was presented to them with the most excitement and enthusiasm.

Please, before you go to the store and sign up for a plan you don’t need or a phone you are not going to use half of the features and functions, take the time to do some smart comparison shopping. Comparing phones, features and service packages, pricing plans of different carriers will allow you to go confidently into the carrier of choice prepared with the knowledge of what plan, phone and special offers are available to you.

The features of the phone should correlate with your style and the things that you will use it for, from the basic making/receiving phone calls and text messaging to the much more advanced features and options available. The type of keypad that is comfortable for you to use and the amount of time you will use it is also important to consider in determining your phone purchase. If you are going to use the phone for business purposes, you might consider a smart phone that will allow you to browse the web, easily send/receive emails and organize your daily business tasks and personal tasks including grocery shopping. If you travel a lot, you might consider the ability to entertain yourself by watching movies or listening to music while waiting in airports, hotels or conference room lobbies.

This is a quick overview to help you think through your next phone purchase to assist you in making the “right” choices for you and/or your family members.

Good luck!
