Scandalous Desires

Hello, and welcome back! It looks like Mother Nature is about to show us her twisted sense of humor, as the weather man is calling for our season's first snow, and it isn't even Halloween yet. As much as I love snow, I'm actually hoping it doesn't snow, since I'm supposed to be out-of-state that day to see two of my favorite authors.

This time out, I have the latest from Elizabeth Hoyt in her "Maiden Lane" series, Scandalous Desires (Grand Central, received from publisher). It's finally time for Silence Hollingbrook's story, which made me very happy. River pirate Mickey O'Connor is used to getting what he wants, and now that his enemy has made a move against him, he may just get the widowed Silence. At least, he'll get her into his lair indefinitely, "for her protection." Silence let Mickey humiliate her publicly once, and she finds she may let herself be thought badly of again if it means the safety of the sweet child she's been raising. Mickey is a rogue of the first order, though, and she'll have to work hard to resist him when he really turns on the charm he's known for. Silence is a challenge for Mickey, but he knows there's more on the line than her sterling reputation. Mickey has made a lot of enemies in his time as a pirate, but one has waited a long time to wreak vengeance on him, and it seems now is the time, and if Silence and a child are casualties that would hurt Mickey, even better. I loved the first book in this series, but not the second one. This one has made me fall in love all over again. I dare you not to fall in love with Mickey, who's a mass of contradictions and secrets, sexy and dangerous, and who keeps his heart well hidden and protected. Or, at least, he did, until Silence came into his life. This is a fabulous story, with an irresistible hero and a heroine more than strong enough to handle him, secrets and all. I'm borrowing four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one. It's going to be one I reread.

Until next time, happy reading!
