Needs of Children

A positive home has a direct effect on the way children learn and thrive. A child that is taken care of well in the home environment will have a more prosperous childhood. Nutrition, love, and concern can make a huge difference in the life of a child receiving special education services.

Nutrition plays an important role in a child’s life. Many schools provide free and reduced breakfast and lunch for low-income families because it is a fact that children function better throughout the day when they know where their next meal is coming from. Cognitive, as well as physical abilities are increased drastically when children consume foods from the top of the food group.

A daily hug and I love you can do wonders for building self-esteem and awareness. Many families often shy away from displaying affection to their children. This is a big mistake. A child that knows he is loved will develop a sense of belonging. Children often act out in order to receive attention. Because the behavior is generally negative when seeking attention, the result is generally punishment. All children seek attention in one way or another. Children receiving special education services sometimes feel alienated because of their disabilities. A loving family environment that treats the child as an independent member of the family is needed to prepare for the future.

Happiness varies from one child to the next, just as the methods of learning are different. A small success at home leads to the confidence of accomplishing goals at school. Parents should make it a habit to become actively involved in the lives of their children. Many parents spend less time in the home due to jobs. Others have chosen to better themselves by pursuing their education. In the midst of a busy schedule, time should be built in for building relationships with children. Children find ways to build relationships with others, whether positive or negative.

Gangs are growing at enormous rates because children seek a family bond. Gangs fill that void by being supportive and attempting to provide the love and support that the child may not feel they are receiving in the home. In these instances, the child develops a strong sense of loyalty. Children receiving special education services are often eager to belong to a respected group because they want to fit in with the crowd.

A happy, healthy child can thrive in any environment. A positive relationship, along with signs of affection will build self-esteem. Behavior issues can also be prevented. It is easier to relate to a child when a positive relationship, respect, and nourishment are provided.
