A gorgeous Golden Retriever named Rosie is at the foundation level of these quilts that Carrie L. Nelson has created. They are fun, and pretty and very doable.

There are 13 quilts in all, and each and every one is a standalone creation. If you like soft and pretty, these quilts are for you. I like that Carrie has taken the time to describe and illustrate “quickie” piecing methods (such as the Half Square Triangle and the Quickie Flying Geese), instead of relying on old outdated techniques (sew two triangles together and hope for the best).
The instructions and diagrams for each of these quilts are quite comprehensive and is a very good fit for the new or nearly new quilter to work from.

While these are mostly traditional quilt patterns, Carrie has played a little twist in each design. I especially like the scalloped edging in the Allemande quilt and the very clever cutting touches to the border on the Crackling Palms Quilt.

Carrie has also designed a series of patchwork fabrics with Henry Glass Fabrics.

The Leisure Arts Publishing Company has, as always, gone to great lengths to produce a quality publication for quilters and this book is no exception. I encourage readers to have a look at the Leisure Arts Website for more of the quilting books that are available, at very reasonable prices.

This book would make a lovely Christmas gift for the quilter who loves to make quilts, loves to follow great instructions and likes to finish her projects.
