Vision Solutions from an Established Organization

A vital aspect for success of dealing with vision issues is the impact of a solid support system. Locating an organization, which, works to assist in making our world one easier for individuals dealing with a visual disability, is extremely important. This article introduces one such organization along with other specific areas of importance which the organization deals with to help the visually disabled live a successful life.

The American Federation of the Blind (AFB) was established June 28th, 1921. During the 90 years of existence, the American Foundation for the Blind has helped to improve and expand the lives of the more than 25 million U.S. individuals dealing with vision issues. AFB works to improve the development and access to technology, which, allows visually impaired/blind individuals to become successfully educated, employed and live independent lives. The organization represents the visually impaired/blind individuals in Washington D. C., lobbing government officials to introduce, pass and implement legislation providing the means for persons with vision issues to find solutions. The organization also works with schools to improve the education materials used for students with vision issues. AFB has been instrumental in assisting the development of Braille in places throughout our world such as: elevators, restroom signs and menus. Finally, AFB help developed access to the yellow pages and newspapers over the telephone along with talking book libraries and equipment/product reviews for the visually challenged. On a personal note, I have benefitted from legislation supported by AFB placing audible crossing signs at busy intersections. Because of the talking crossing sign, I can transverse a very busy intersection near my building safely.

As the technology wave continues, AFB has remained one of the leading organizations helping visually affected individuals find help to solve vision issues. The AFB organization developed a very comprehensive website. The website offers a visually impaired/blind individual or family member of an affected individual a variety of resources, information, contacts and agencies equipped to help solve or answer most questions dealing with vision issues.

AFB is one of the leading organizations helping individuals dealing with vision issues to find solutions. Through the 90 years of existence, the organization has developed programs, which offer an individual dealing with vision issues a variety of avenues to locate help.
