In Air Penguin, you've got a cute little penguin jumping, sliding, and racing across ice floes to reach the destination. It's a simple matter of phone tilting.
The game is nicely straightforward, and very well designed. You start easy. You tilt your phone to move forward, back to move backwards, and side to side. You don't want to touch the water for some reason - don't penguins know how to swim? I agree that part doesn't make much sense. Maybe nasty sharks are swimming around these ice blocks.
In any case, once you start to get into the game, things get a little tricky. Soon there are holes in the ice to avoid, seals who try to bump you off your path, sharks leaping out of the water to eat you, flying fish, and much more. You need all your wits about you to make it to the end.
Along the way you're also trying to gather up fish, so there's incentive to replay a level until you get it just right.
This is a great time-killing game. If you're waiting in line at the grocery store, and have 10 minutes to wait, you pull out the game and the time flies by. If you're waiting for a bus, or a friend to show up, it's perfect. This isn't meant to be a long, epic investment. You slide along for a bit, hit pause when life catches up to you, and it's always there.
Plus it's friendly for all ages. The penguin is cute, the graphics are fun, and the music is light. It's a game that youngsters can enjoy and share with their grandparents.
Is there a down side? You do have to be fairly dextrous once you get deeper into the levels. If you're not precise with your movements of your hand - or maybe if your phone itself is a bit iffy - you'll get frustrated. This does require a fair amount of dexterity to do the twists and turns exactly right. It's not like a button pressing game where you just have to hit A or B. You have to move the entire unit exactly the right way to get to your destination.
Still, with that caveat, I think that anyone who is able to do those sorts of actions will enjoy this. Well recommended.
