A Guide to Using Scents

We’ve all heard of psychotherapy, oxygen therapy and now we have scent therapy. You may know it as aromatherapy. However it’s known to you, scents are used to balance your mood and your mind, nourish your body and revive your spirit as an overall appreciation of its beauty.

For the most part scents are used for pleasure, in perfumes, home fragrance blends and even in laundry detergents and fabric softeners. But either way these are all personal preferences.

But when used to maintain or improve your health, the effects and properties of the scents are a crucial part of the choice you make.

Scents are powerful, concentrated substances and it’s important to understand how they work.

As Scents for Your Body>/b>, the best way to use them is to “layer” them, using a variety of scented products. You might begin with a body wash, then a body oil or body butter would follow, topping your layering off with a dusting powder and body mist spray.

Great oils and scent blends for your body are rose, jasmine, lavender and geranium. These essential oils in a base of jojoba oil are like food for your skin.

As a Scent for Your Home, a pleasant smell is the first thing people notice when they enter into your environment. This aroma can largely affect the mood of the people in your home.

So a room spray, or bowl of potpourri, perfume balls, candles or dried herbs can all be used to enhance the aroma of a room.

If you like the beauty of sitting on your porch, or enjoying the solitude of your back yard, an Herb Garden would be the perfect scent environment for relaxation.

Basil, rosemary, mint and sage all make for an aromatic journey when enjoying the beauty of outdoors. You don’t have to limit these beauties to outdoor spaces. An indoor pot garden is a wonderful way of having their aroma within your home.

Zesty and refreshing scents such as grapefruits, lemons, limes and oranges add punch to a room when sitting in a bowl on the table. These scents are considered uplifting scents.

Benefiting From All Parts Of A Plant

You can benefit from many parts of a scented plant, it’s leaves, petals, bark and seeds. Not to mention the essential oils that are extracted or distilled from them, they cab provide many uses for you and your environment.

If you’re going to bring essential oils into your mix, it’s a good idea to know how they work. You can add a few drops to a diffuser and the aroma will slowly rise into the air. Or you can create your very own scented body and hair products.

But knowledge of what blends well with what is often a good idea. So whether it’s a room freshener, a personal perfume blend or scented sheets for your bed, the beauty of a pleasant aroma is always welcomed.
