Easy Buffet Tips

Start your buffet table preparations by placing the serving table in the middle of the room. If youíre planning on a large crowd a centrally located buffet table allows the line to move quickly on both sides. To set your buffet table, follow this logical sequence: plates first, followed by the main dish, vegetables, salad and bread. Set out plenty of clean dishes, napkins and utensils at the end of the buffet line, so guests can keep their hands free when helping themselves. Wrap up the utensils in a napkin so that your guests don't drop the silverware. For an added decorative touch, tie the napkin with a colorful ribbon. Overall, guests should have sufficient space to serve themselves. To create more room, set up a separate table for beverages and desserts.

Setting up an attractive display can add flair to your buffet table. This is easily done can by elevating the heights of serving dishes. Cover small boxes with pretty fabric for an inexpensive and attractive display. Tiered cake plates and dessert servers are also great for adding height to your table. Put your highest serving dish in the center of the table and go down from there. The more you can stack and layer, the more room you create. Simple decorations such as candles, strings of lights, lace, candelabras, flowers, glassware, and patterned dishes can all be used to decorate your buffet table. If you are having a themed party, use decor that compliments your theme.

Guests may have dietary needs, such as diabetes or food allergies, so be sure to provide healthy food options. Include choices such as fruits and veggies, and offer sugar-free and alcohol-free beverages. To ensure that everyone enjoys the dining experience, keep the buffet fresh and replenished. Have backup platters full of food to immediately replace any that are getting sparse. Save guests the hassle of going back in line by putting foods in individual cups. These foods may include soup or desserts. Set these at the end of the tables, where guests can reach in and grab one without going through the whole line.

Whether itís a casual or formal gathering, a buffet can save you time and with a little preparation, a buffet table can look glamorous. When you are planning your next party, opt for a buffet and use these easy buffet ideas.
