Will you be able to avoid being caught in any embarrassing situations on Awkward Moments Day? How much chocolate caramel will you allow yourself to indulge in on National Chocolate Caramel Day? Will you be abducted by an alien on Alien Abduction Day?
Awkward Moments Day - When was the last time you had an awkward moment? How embarrassing was it? Just be relieved that your embarrassing moment wasn't caught on live film for the entire world to see. Or maybe it was. Today is the day when it is realized that everyone has these awkward moments. All you can do is look back at them and laugh.
Perhaps you tripped walking across the stage to receive your diploma. Maybe you went on a blind date only to find that your date wasn't a complete stranger, it was an ex-boyfriend that you never wanted to see again. Possibly you wished your boss a happy birthday in front of the whole office only to find that his birthday was two weeks ago.
An awkward moment once in a while is normal and isn't that hard to get over, but imagine what it would be like to several of them each day. What would life be like then? Create a character who has this problem for a while and help him or her to come out of that situation.
Forgive Mom and Dad Day - Do you resent things that your Mom and Dad did while you were growing up? Are you upset because of rules that you feel they imposed on you? Do you walk around holding a grudge against them? Did you find out that your parents neglected to tell you that they were aliens from some far-off planet? Now the enemies they fled from are coming after you for some strange reason.
Take advantage of this wonderful holiday and forgive your parents for whatever grudge you might hold against them. Life is far too short to walk around angry with the ones who gave you life.
Create a character who truly needs to forgive his Mom and Dad before he can find happiness. For some reason, I see this as a humorous story. Even if you've never written anything that is humorous, give it a try for this one.
National Chocolate Caramel Day - Now this sounds like my kind of holiday. I couldn't find the origins of this tasty holiday, but I'm willing to bet it was a candy manufacturer. Any holiday celebrating chocolate is great and gives one an excuse to indulge.
You could write an historical fiction story about the creation of chocolate caramel. Or you could write a mystery where chocolate caramel is the key to solving the crime. Or you could write a romance where chocolate caramel speaks of love. And there are several other possibilities I'm sure you can think of.
Swallows Return to San Juan Capistrano Day - During the earthquake of 1823, the roof of this Chapel collapsed. It was left bare and exposed to the elements. Now its mission seems to be to house the multitudes of swallows that return to it year after year. The birds flock in on or around this day and rebuild their little mud nests, content to stay inside the ruins of this once ornate chapel for a time.
Why not do some research and write an historical fiction story about the earthquake and the collapse of this chapel and the first time the swallows decided to make it their home?
Alien Abduction Day - Do you believe in little green men from outer space? Do you believe that they travel to earth and abduct people? Was the creator of this holiday abducted by aliens? Or did he go with them willingly?
Why not write a story about how this day, created for those who love all things alien, was created? And it would be only fitting to include an alien abduction.
