This is the one big Menís Golf Pro Tournament that gets lots of attention. It is where every Pro golfer from around the world wants to play in this one. I believe it is the most watched television golf tournament that is played in America or any place in the world. Because of the history and the exclusive golf course it is quite a show. All the golf magazines start early to begin writing about this tournament.
Such as the April edition of Golf Magazine it has a big section called The Masters and states ďPull up a seat, the show is about to beginĒ. 2012 Masters Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia on April five to eight. It features Johnny Miller in a guide to the golf course with pictures and commentary. This review will get you in the tournament fever.
The thing I liked about this article was the review of the old timers who had won this tournament called the ďBand of BrothersĒ. It featured a winner from each decade starting in the 1950ís with Doug Ford winner in 1957. A picture of him holding the picture of him getting the green jacket, Doug Ford is also the oldest living Masters winner at age 89. The next decade of the 1960ís features Arnold Palmer who had won four Masterís green jackets. He savored the last one in 1964 as he was leading by six on the last hole a decisive win.
In the 1970ís it was Fuzzy Zoeller who won in 1979 this was a rare win as it was his first time playing in the Masters. In 1980 it was Larry Mize in 1987 with a remarkable chip-in to beat Greg Norman in a sudden death play-off. I remember this shot as it was a great shot but I felt sorry for Greg Norman as he had played so well to get beat by an amazing chip-in.
In the 1990ís it was Nick Faldo who won in 1996 who had won the Masters three times. He mentioned that winning the Masters is forever and says thatís pretty cool. In 2000ís it was Zach Johnson in 2007 who says he wasnít suppose to win so just thought go out and give it your all. He thought that Tiger Woods will probably win or some other top player so the pressure was off. After winning and sitting in the locker room he said it was Easter and that God had a plan for him and he just followed it. I remember this win too and cheered him on as he was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where we had lived for so long. I was watching this tournament in Texas but it is good to see a small town golfer win the big one.
In 2010 it was Charl Schwaretzel in 2011 who won that year by finishing his final round with four straight birdies. This had never been done in the Masters. He says he was concentrating so hard and trying to hold himself together so when he finished the adrenaline was so high when you realize what you had done. This review of the Masters was a good one and will get you ready for this yearís tournament on April 5 to 8, it will soon be here.
