Festival of Smoke and Mirrors Day is a day of illusions. When I think of illusion, the fun house at a carnival is the first think that comes to mind. The flexible distortion mirrors inside have the ability to make you thin or fat, short or tall, funny or scary. They can do weird and amazing things to your reflection.

When you write a mystery, a thriller, or a romance you need to put smoke and mirrors up so that the reader isn't privy to everything that is going on. This comes easily to some writers, others have to work at it. Why not practice incorporating smoke and mirrors into your writing today? Create a mystery and come up with all of the red herrings that will cause your reader to wonder just what is really going on.

National Mom & Pop Business Owner's Day - Small business owners are honored on March 29. Many prefer these small businesses because special attention is given to the customer and his or her needs. These owners put in long hours because they love what they do, and the quality of their business is evidence of this.

This holiday was created by Rick Segel to honor the business started by his parents on March 29, 1939, in Everett, Massachusetts. Originally a hat shop (Ruth's), it later developed into a specialty clothing store for women and relocated in Medford, Massachusetts. It closed in 1997 with over $2 million dollars in revenue.

Create a character who begins a business and grows it until it is extremely successful. What obstacles does he face along the way? Does he manage to keep his business friendly, keep it as one that caters to the customer?

Niagara Falls Runs Dry Day - Have these beautiful, powerful, and majestic falls ever quit running? On March 30, 1848, the unthinkable happened. Ice that had formed on Lake Erie had slowed the falls on the American side down to a mere trickle; on the Canadian side, the falls were completely silent. A lot of people came to see this amazing event. Some were even brave (or foolish) enough to walk down around where these powerful falls normally landed and gathered relics that had been lost under the falls. Thirty hours later, the falls began to move once again.

The falls have run dry a few other times, too, but this holiday is based on the experience in 1848.

Create a character who is living at the time when the falls become silent. He (or she) is one of the brave individuals who walk where the now-silent falls normally hit. Nooks and crannies normally not seen are explored. Artifacts from the War of 1812 are picked up. A mystery is discovered. Does your character attempt to solve the mystery, even though it could have major repercussions on her life?
