Locked and Loaded

Hello, and welcome back! The past couple of weeks have been so warm here, I'm afraid for what this summer is going to be like once it actually arrives. Perhaps I'd better start putting in my supply of lemonade and teas now so I'm prepared to stay indoors in the air conditioning if the summer is as hot and dry as I think it's going to be. And, as far behind on my reading as I currently am, I'll have plenty to keep me busy indoors.

This time out, I have the latest from Alexis Grant, Locked and Loaded (St. Martin's, received from publisher), next in her "Men of Delta Force" series. In this installment, DEA agent Sage Wagner is working undercover as Camille Rodriguez, lover to Roberto Salazar, criminal mastermind, and whose family was responsible for the death of her own family. Now, though, Captain Anthony Davis is about to blow her cover. Not on purpose, of course, but his own mission messes up her own, so they'll be forced to work together to bring down the Salazars. But Anthony wants more than to team up with her on this mission. Now that he's met her, he wants everything. And once he kisses her, he'll do anything to get her forever. Sage has a lot of issues, as well as good intentions. Her issues are what has gotten her to where she is, but once her demons are exorcised, will she still have the same goals? After all, if she's successful at her mission, the Salazars will be behind bars, and their murder of her family is what set her on her career path. Sage and Anthony's attraction is full-on, and kind of awkward. I can understand lust, certainly. But I found it much harder to buy into their deeper emotions so quickly. Anthony is a good hero, and Sage is a woman who can hold her own. But I really didn't fall in love with this one as I'd hoped when I started it. I wasn't convinced by their falling in love, which is a problem, and I didn't fall in love with Anthony, which is a bigger problem. I want to fall in love with the hero when I'm reading, and, while I liked him, I just didn't love Anthony. Too bad. I'm borrowing only three of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Until next time, happy reading!
