Hello, and welcome back! The weather here is unbelievable for this time of year. Flowers are blooming that shouldn't be for another month, trees are sprouting leaves where their branches should be bare. As much as I love spring, I'd love it to come a bit later, when it's actually supposed to arrive. If it's coming this early, I imagine that means summer will be here sooner, as well, and that is no good in my book. Our lack of snow over the winter has turned to a lack of rain for spring so far, which tells me summer is going to be hot and dry. Bad for anyone who hates the heat, but I imagine it'll be fantastic for catching up and staying caught up on my reading if I have to stay in the air conditioning for three solid months.

This time out, I have Into the Crossfire (Avon, received from publisher) by Lisa Marie Rice, next in her "Protectors" series with former Navy SEAL Sam Reston lusting after the gorgeous brunette who has the office across the hall from his, and when he gets the chance to help her out, he turns it to his advantage by persuading her to have dinner with him. Nicole Pearce hasn't got time for a man, though when she realizes how she's leaped to all the wrong conclusions about Sam, it does make her at least ponder the possibilities. But she needs to keep her focus on work and her dying father. Until someone dangerous wants something she has, and they'll do anything to get it back, including kill her. Sam isn't about to let that happen, and if it means spending more time with Nicole, up close and personal, even better. I'd actually put this one on my to-buy list before its release, so I was happy to see it arrive with the review books. Unfortunately, I didn't love it as much as I'd hoped. Sam has already fantasized about Nicole, so for him, falling isn't as much of a stretch, though I'm not sure I bought into that. I definitely didn't buy into her falling so fast, not with everything going on in her life, and after her first impressions of Sam. I can understand the lust on her part. Former SEAL, successful businessman--sexy. But the story takes place in such a short period of time, I just couldn't believe she fell so fast. This one isn't a bad read, just a bit disappointing. I prefer Ms. Rice's alter ego's stories, I think. I'm borrowing only three of Cupid's five arrows for this one.
