This time out, I have Donna Kauffman's latest, Sugar Rush (Brava, received from publisher), the first in her "Cupcake Club" series. Baker Leilani Trusdale has left New York for Sugarberry Island, opening her very own bakery. But her old boss, the very sexy Baxter Dunne is hot on her trail. He wants to film his cooking show in her shop. Lani had the hots for the bad boy Brit when they worked together, and she knows letting him do this is a terrible idea. But Baxter is persuasive, and not just about the show, but about other things she knows are far worse ideas. Resisting the man once was challenging, and Lani might not be up to the task again, especially since the man is so determined to have his way--and Lani. Baxter has done a lot of selfish and foolhardy things, but knowing that he's bound to hurt Lani might make him rethink this whole plan. Maybe. but that doesn't mean they can't enjoy one another while he's still there, right? Lani is terrific, with a circle of close friends women dream of having. Baxter might be her weak spot, but that doesn't mean she's going to let him break her heart all over again. She may just have to be strong enough to take what she wants and then set him free. Ha! No one could possibly resist the man, or stop herself from falling in love with him. And if the romance isn't enough to persuade you, maybe the cupcake recipes will? I doubt you'll need those as incentive. More likely, they'll just be the proverbial icing on the cakes. I'm borrowing three and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one.
Until next time, happy reading!
