Each To Their Own Belief

The disbelievers in God have every right to follow the paths they have chosen. We all have the right to follow any religion or belief system that we choose.

Chapter 109, verses 1-6
Say, “O you disbelievers. I do not worship what you worship. Nor do you worship what I worship. Nor will I ever worship what you worship. Nor will you ever worship what I worship. To you is your religion, and to me is my religion.

This chapter from the end of the Quran tells us that when it comes to religion and who or what we worship, it up to each of us as individuals to decide. It is not for us to judge one another or to follow one another along the same path.

There is no instruction to fight or abuse another person for not believing in the same thing and this chapter makes it plain that we should stick to our guns and not be swayed by what others tell us.

If people choose not to believe in God or to believe in something or someone else to idolise alongside God, it is their right to do so. It is also our right to follow the religion of our choice without anyone else interfering.

Islam means submission to God alone and a Muslim is one who submits only to the will of god and not those around him. Those who elect to worship others alongside God, such saints and prophets, or choose not to believe in anything else as a god, can do so.

Those who worship God alone are following the first commandment, ‘ thou shalt have no other gods before me’.

Chapter 2, verse 256
There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in God has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. God is Hearer, Omniscient.

No compulsion means no one can force another person to believe in anything that they do not want to. We do not have the right to kill another person because their belief system differs from ours. We do not have the right to kill or torment another person if they decide to leave one religion and follow another.

Religion is something between one’s soul and its creator and no one and nothing should interfere or take away the right of another to worship as they prefer.

Chapter 10, verse 99-100
Had your Lord willed, all the people on Earth would have believed. Do you want to force the people to become believers? No soul can believe except in accordance with God’s will. For he places a curse upon those who refuse to understand.
