Echoes, written by Jason Brant, is a fast paced political thriller full of action. The story opens at a political gathering where a senator is going to give a speech. His speech ends with him putting a gun to his head and pulling the trigger. Of course, there wasn't anyone who expected that to happen. Or was there?

Have you ever wished that you could hear what other people were thinking? But could you handle all of those voices in your head? If you were only around one person at a time, it might not be too bad, although I'm sure you would hear things you really didn't like. Just imagine being in a crowded room, or a busy shopping center, or an apartment complex.

Ash, from a war injury he received, discovered that he had this uncanny ability when he woke up in the hospital. But hearing every thought that was going through the mind of every person he was around took its toll. All of the voices in his head were literally driving him crazy, so he drank – a lot. That is the only thing that seemed to quiet them down and give him some relief. He turns into a hermit and is hardly ever seen. Then this cute girl moves in next door to him, and he decides that he needs to straighten up so he can meet her.

She has a habit of bringing home the wrong type of guy, and Ash overhears an argument between this girl and her date. She tells him to leave and he does not want to go. So Ash goes over to rescue her from this gigantic athlete. Ash's advantage is that he can read this guy's mind.

Anyway, he and Sammy are whisked away by government agents who tell them that their lives are in danger. Why? Because Ash is a telepath. And they need his help finding the only other telepath out there that they know of. Only thing, the guy they want him to help them find can do more than read people's minds, he can also control their actions and cause them to do whatever he tells them, things like kill your family or blow your own brains out.

What is this super-telepath up to? What plans does he have for the United States? The action never stops in this fast paced political thriller by Jason Brant. It would be great if the book was longer, but it is also awesome that it is only 140 pages long and can easily be read through in one afternoon.

I loved the characters in this book, especially the main character. The author did a fantastic job when he had Ash inject humor into even the most dire situations. These humorous comments made the book even more enjoyable.
