What Goes on in A Girl’s Life

If you really want to understand what your daughter’s world looks like try this. Ask her to draw a map of her world, via school, home, extended family, mall, neighbor’s house etc…

Ask her to show what goes on each area of the map for example, for home have her draw each area of the house including the yard. Have her draw family members, how often they frequent that area and what goes on. Watch as she shows you what’s going on in her life and how she sees things.

Get to know the things that actually go on in her world. Take a look at how she draws the neighbor’s house and as she describes interactions. Look at her descriptions as she begins to describe extended family’s homes. Take a good look at how she describes her school life and its own world.

I caution you. You will be surprised, angry and alarmed at how she views things and how they occur in her life. I urge you to control your emotions as she describes house interactions. And for the one that will strike fear in you – I caution you as she describes school activity and interactions.

This is a great opportunity for you to bond with your daughter. This will give you the opportunity to give her the right tools to get through school life. Keep in mind that the things she must go through in school life will help her with real life activity. This exercise is good for any age girl – particularly the teen girls. You get a firsthand look at what goes on in a girl’s life particularly your girl.

For teen girls the most important part of her life occurs in both school and home so pay attention. You can also suggest that she present a suggestion box to both home and school life. This encourages her to get the school more involved with positive and negative activity. This also helps to cut down on sibling rivalry or family debates.

This exercise is even good for girls if they have a good life at both home and school. This allows you to see her perspective and interactions of the people in her life.

This exercise could also be good for adults. Draw a map of home and office life. Follow the instructions listed above and you’ll see how you view your world and its occurrences.

Take a good look at what goes on in your daughter’s world - especially the home and school life. I will say that when I had my daughter do this exercise – I was amazed at how she viewed my role in the house. I was also equally amazed at what schools aren’t aware of.

Life can be a little easier – if given the right tools for getting through it. Help her enjoy the now! Encourage her to make a difference.
