Sweet Stuff

Hello, and welcome back! Summer is here, nearly so on the calendar, which means it's the perfect sort of weather to stay indoors where it's cool and do some serious reading. A good idea for me, since my TBR pile way beyond the teetering-on-the-edge-of-the-desk stage and into the multiple-teetering-stacks stage. One of these days I'll be caught up again, I'm sure. In the meantime, I hope you're all staying cool and reading plenty of fantastic new romance novels.

This time out, I have Donna Kauffman's Sweet Stuff (Brava, received from publisher), second in her very fun "Cupcake Club" series. Riley Brown left Chicago behind to become a house stager on Sugarberry Island, and she's enjoying her new life way more than she could have imagined. Her new friends are amazing, and the hunk who's just moved into her latest home is even more tempting than her friend's cupcakes. Quinn Brannigan just wants to finish his new book, but Riley is a major distraction from that task, and he hadn't anticipated that complication at all. Riley and Quinn are a lot of fun, though the only real obstacle to their relationship is Quinn himself and his plans to get in, finish his book, and get back out of the small Georgia town. Quinn is a tempting hunk, and I dare readers not to fall for him. Riley is funny, and her relationship with her friends is a big bonus to the story, as a lot of readers will be wishing for friends like that if they don't already have them. Readers will also have watering mouths with every mention of the cupcakes from Cakes by the Cup. Good thing Ms. Kauffman is including recipes in each of these books, the sort of recipes that add five pounds to one's weight just from looking at them. She's also created a website for the bakery where you can find even more of the tempting recipes. For Quinn and Riley, I'm borrowing three and a half of Cupid's five arrows. It's a lot of fun, and I can't wait to see what her friends are up to when it gets to be their turns.

Until next time, happy reading!
