With so many types of mobile devices you have to know how you will use the device, where you will use it and how often you will use it to make the right choice. I have several desktop computers with varying applications, speed and power. One pc is used specifically for editing professional quality video production projects. This computer rarely is connected to the internet. I have valuable editing software installed as well as hours of raw video that would be devastating if the computer contracted a virus delivered via the internet and ctashed. So, I limit the usage of this computer to editing. This device is only mobile by using a flash drive to support small files to be viewed by a customer before final production.

I have other home computers on a shared network that I surf the web, check e-mails, keep accounting projects and detailed expenses, operating budgets and inventory for my small business. My business includes an internet presence and I update the website from this set of computers. This information is shared on a backup platform accessible by me from any computer making my home based computers mobile.

When I travel I carry a laptop with me and use this for all of my business needs including small editing projects. My laptop does not have the editing power my designated business computer has so I prefer to limit the amount of time I spend editing on it. My laptop is very mobile; however, the weight sometimes can be cumbersome.

I use my android based cellular phone to check emails on the run i.e. in my car, in transit, during lunch or conference/meeting breaks. The cellular phone is a great small way to keep in touch, get directions check emails, get notifications of social media updates or auction bid status.

I am now considering the ease of the tablet due to its lightweight construction and ability to fit into my purse. The tablet is less powerful than my pc but more powerful than my phone or netbook. It has a decent amount of space, lots of available aps and larger screen than my phone providing easier viewing. The tablet can take good photos, videos and allow me to create documents on the go and access my documents that are stored in my backup platform.

I am finding that most households contain a variety of mobile devices depending on the ages of the occupants. The youngest members have the netbook for basic social media and email functionality. The teens have the higher end units with great gaming power and online socializing capabilities including built in webcams. The adults need all of the applications that allow them to function in the business world with on the go devices to match their various work demands.

The key to making the right choice is to know what your main purpose for the device is and match that with the spectrum of applications available on the correlating devices to maximize your purchasing power. Most of the devices can communicate with each other and utilizing an internet based file backup can assist with having access to your needed files on the go without requiring you to have a huge amount of mobile storage on every device.

Finding the right device requires you to be willing to try new applications and change with the ever-changing mobile device offerings available to meet your new demands.
