Temple Run Review - Android

Temple Run is a game available for Android platforms. You know that scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where Ford is racing down a path, with death right behind him? That's the gist of this game.

So what your screen shows is the path in front of you, and depending on what device you have this could be a clear view or a tiny view. On my Samsung Fascinate it's fairly challenging to see the twists and turns of the path ahead, and to swipe in time. On my Kindle Fire it's a much easier thing to do.

Luckily you don't have too many things to keep track of doing. You can jump over gaps in the path. You can turn at the sharp lefts and rights. You can slide underneath obstacles. So most of the time you are trying to peer at the screen, watch for the upcoming obstacles, and take the appropriate action.

Oh, and there are of course things to collect along the way too. So you might be leaning left to grab some items and then quickly jumping a tree limb and then tilting right to take the corner.

The game isn't about long, complicated epic stories or building up your character's many different stats in exactly the right way. It's simply a fun race. You're immersed back in all of those temple-escape movies complete with a hoard of enemies right at your heels. If you crash into a tree or forget to leap over a pit, that's the end. But if you make it through the gauntlet, victory is sweet!

I have a variety of games on my hand-held devices. Some are puzzle games. Some are thought-provoking games. And some are simple, fairly mindless games that I can pick up for five minutes while waiting in line, put them down again when it's my turn, and it fills the space in nicely. Temple Run falls into that category.

Well recommended.

I purchased this game with my own funds in order to do this review.
