Fluvia Lacerda in Video

Plus size dress and career clothing designer, Igigi, commissioned fashion photographer and director Mark De Paola to film plus-size Brazilian model, Fluvia Lacerda (Fashion Bug, Biluzik, Torrid, IGIGI, Latina and Glamour) in a few short films. The aim was to challenge the ongoing "stereotypes of beauty currently set by the film, fashion, and advertising industries". The title "16" if you have not figured it out represents her dress size.

Fluvia talks about being sexy:
"Today women think they must fit unachievable molds in order to feel beautiful and sexy. As a curvy woman I have always felt sexy under my skin and this film carries that very message, a message I hope will open people's minds with regard to how diverse beauty can be.
Fluvia Lacerda has been a familiar face (and body) to me for some time; at least online. To say she is not sexy would be a down right lie. The woman is mesmerizing and a good focal point for this film.

'16' follows Fluvia from a sexy shower scene until she is ready to hit the town in a long evening gown. While she is lovely for both men and women to watch I do not see this video offering much beyond its sexiness. It tries to pull a Fat Rant (with a few parting text words at the end) without the rant but I did not feel it does much for the cause.

Regardless, I think those within the fatosphere will be proudly passing it around "just because" and Fluvia has a large fan base that will relish the few minutes of sensual motion -- View the short film 16 on Igigi's YouTube Channel (be sure to check out the second film in the series too -- "Being You is Being Beautiful!" -- it really is a beautiful short film.

Igigi offers plus size clothing in sizes 12 to 32 for women who want career and evening clothing designed specifically for their curves. While this initiative is reminiscent of Dove's incredibly successful marketing campaign. We should not fool ourselves into believing that either is designed for more than getting our shopping dollars. That being said, I am rather proud of companies who take a chance on productions like these and we should support them when they do.
