RV Camping in Charleston

So, youíve decided to take a trip to one of the most charming towns in The South. And why not? This bustling little hamlet is full of history, tourist attractions galore, lovely boutique shops for the discerning shopper, and true southern cuisine to please any appetite. Not only that, Charleston just happens to be home to some of the best beaches on the East Coast. And on top of all of that, itís got warm weather almost year-round, so anytime is a good time to visit. If youíve never been before, then you probably donít know where to stay once you get there. Donít worry; Iíve done some homework for you. There are three RV parks that I would be happy to call home on my next visit to the Holy City. In fact, the plan is to stay at each of them for a little while because they each have their own perks.

Oak Plantation Campground
If youíre looking for a peaceful, serene setting on the outskirts of town, Oak Plantation is the place to be. This large campground, conveniently located off Savannah Highway southwest of town, soothes the soul from the minute you enter. The park is much larger than I imagined it would be from the front entrance. It features a variety of sites, from the fully shaded gravel pull-thru style to sunny concrete slab sites to everything in between. It appears to be able to accommodate every size of rig as well. While the playground needs some updating, Iíd still call this a family-friendly campground because kids can either hop in the pool or ride their bikes around the many roads within the park. There is also a fishing lake that even has some real live alligators living in it. Plus, the park is within walking distance to a grocery store, several fast food restaurants, and a gas station. James County Park Campground Island
This campground is chock-full of perks, both inside and outside of the park. To start with, the campground is downright cozy and is situated right in the middle of one of the best county parks in Charleston. It features a well-stocked camp store and laundry mat and a nice variety of campsites to choose from. Right across from the campground is a water park and a covered playground for the kiddos. Thereís a rock climbing wall, fishing lake, and hiking and biking trails located within the park as well. And if that wasnít enough, the campground is centrally located to many area attractions like Folly Beach and downtown Charleston. Itís an ideal place to stay when youíre looking to be close to the action, yet feel like youíre out in the woods all at the same time. For more information, visit www.ccprc.com.

Mount Pleasant KOA
This campground reminds me of a quintessential family campground. It features weekend hayride tours of an oak plantation, an outdoor pool, a small recreation hall, a shaded playground, a cute campground store, and a lake to go kayaking in. The grounds are large, so there is plenty of room to take long walks at night. Itís also just a short hike to Blackbeardís Cove Family Fun Park. This park is located east of Charleston and is most convenient to those wanting to spend time on Isle of Palms and Sullivanís Island. Another perk about this campground is that it is located near a Super Walmart Center, Trader Joeís and Whole Foodsóthree of my favorite places to shop. To learn more visit www.koa.com.

No matter which park you choose, your visit to Charleston will be made even better with one of these places to call your home base.
