Children's Book App Video Trailer and WordPress

One of the best ways to promote or market your storybook app is to publish a video trailer, which you have created in Flash^R, on YouTube^TM or Vimeo. Some potential readers will find your video on YouTube or Vimeo by searching the web or these websites. But there are a few other ways to use a video trailer to promote your children's book app. Once you have uploaded your trailer, you will also want to embed it into your storybook app's landing page, your author/artist website and your app's Facebook Fan page.

As with other WordPress features, adding a video to your WordPress site works differently than for basic HTML webpages. YouTube and Vimeo offer HTML code for sharing your video on webpages but WordPress will not work with this "sharing" code. But not to worry, embedding video into WordPress webpages is simple.

Let's walk through the steps. You will first want to export your Flash trailer in the .mov format. Next, upload your .mov video to your YouTube or Vimeo account.

View your video on its YouTube or Vimeo webpage. There you will find the Share and Email buttons for embedding or emailing your video. We won't be using this code. WordPress has its own method of embedding video into a page or post.
Go up to the browser window and grab the URL for the YouTube or Vimeo webpage. It will look something like this. Copy the URL.

Now we will go to the admin area for your WordPress site. The next steps are the same for both posts and pages on your site.
Open the post or page in the editing window. We will be adding the code to the Visual editor window and not the HTML editor window.
We don't want to add the code to embed the video within a section of text. It must be placed on its own line within the page content. So we need to start a new line.
On this new line, paste the URL for the YouTube or Vimeo webpage containing your video.
Now we will add the opening and closing embed tags to this line of code. Put [embed] before the URL and [/embed] after the URL.

Save the changes to your post or page.

The embed tag tells WordPress to embed the video it finds at the given URL into your webpage.

If you are comfortable working with HTML code. You can add the video URL into the source code. Click the HTML tag to switch from the Visual to the HTML editor for your post or page. On a separate line, add only the URL. You do not need to include the embed tags when working with the source code.
