How to Make Your Skin Glow

We all know someone with beautiful skin who always looks fresh and glowing. Most of us assume it comes naturally some are born with glowing skin and some are not. Well, I'm here to tell you that we've misguided! We can all have glowing, healthy skin if we follow a few simple steps.

Here are three simple tips to start you on your way to the glowing skin you've always wanted.

1. Get Rid of Dead Skin Cells by Exfoliating. Exfoliating - removing dead skin cells on the skin's outermost surface - is the first step in achieving your goal of glowing skin.

You'll find many different exfoliating cleansers on the market, each with a different degree of coarseness. The exfoliating ingredients in these products range from crushed apricot shells, sea salt, walnut pieces and ground coffee to raspberry, lemon and even crushed pearls.

Add the exfoliating cleanser into your routine 2 to 3 times a week to remove the top layers of skin cells and reveal the glowing new layers below! Use caution because overuse or scrubbing too hard can lead to irritation and redness.

When making your choice of cleanser, remember not to use a "body" exfoliating cleanser on your face! Products designed for the body are much coarser than those designed for facial skin care. Body products are meant for elbows, knees and feet!

2. Get Your Sweat On. A regular exercise program will help your skin as well as your body. Your body releases sweat through the pores of your skin taking dirt and toxins with it. Getting your heart rate up will also increase blood flow, which can bring a beautiful and healthy glow to you face.

It's best to start your exercise with a clean, makeup free face to avoid pores clogged with dirt and makeup. I carry a travel pack of makeup remover sheets in my gym back and a quick swipe is all it takes to remove the day's makeup.

After your workout, get that sweat off your face as soon as possible. A quick splash of water or swipe with a cleansing towlette will work just fine. Clean skin goes hand-in-hand with glowing skin.

3. Find the Right Moisturizer. Moisturizer is an absolute essential, even if you have oily skin. Cleansing and exfoliating removes all the dirt and dead skin, but it also takes all of your skin's natural oils with it.

I like to start with a little splash of water on my face and then apply my moisturizer. Make sure you don't dry your face first. The moisturizer will help seal the water into your skin, which gives you a plumper, healthier look.

Experiment with different products until you find one that gives you the look and feel you're after. Moisturizers can range from very heavy to light and powdery. Because I have dry skin, I use a heavy moisturizer after my night cleansing and a light moisturizer under my makeup during the day.

On days when I'm not wearing makeup, I just go with a splash of water and the light moisturizer. It makes my skin feel supple and gives me a healthy glow. If you won't leave the house with at least some coverage, try a tinted moisturizer. My favorite is Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer with SPF 20. It's light and even gives you some sunscreen protection.

If you follow these three steps, your skin will be smooth, glowing and gorgeous!
