DIY Face Mask - Honey, Nutmeg & Cinnamon

While I'd love to whisk myself away to the spa for a facial sometimes it's just not feasible. My schedule gets busy, I've got deadlines, life just gets in the way and I can't de-stress like I want to.

There are also those times when I get random breakouts that reek havoc on my skin and life when they happen at the worst possible time. Once upon one of these types of breakouts, I decided to do a search for a quick and easy face mask that combats acne and helps smooth the skin. I came across a tutorial from Elizabeth at BlogLovin, where she shares how to make a facial mask from a few simple ingredients.

These items are things that you and I more than likely already have around the kitchen. Not only is the mask simple to apply, it smells wonderful and you can actually get something else done while you're waiting with the mask on your face. Whenever I need a quick escape I prepare this mask really quickly and get taken away by the amazing scent.

It's a really easy recipe it's almost unbelievable. All you need for this mask is nutmeg, cinnamon and honey. You just combine equal teaspoons of cinnamon, nutmeg and honey and combine until it is a thick paste. Allow the face mask to sit on your face for about 30-45 minutes and then use a warm, wet washcloth to buff the mask off of your face.

You should feel the results instantly. Make sure to apply a moisturizer to your face afterward. This mask is really wonderful because of the all natural ingredients in it and the qualities they bring to the table.

Cinnamon is an exfoliant, astringent, anti-fungal aid and helped used to battle against viruses. In the masks' case, it stimulates the pores which gives the other ingredients a chance to work on your skin.

Nutmeg is a great anti-inflammatory which has been used for thousands of years to treat things like eczema and ringworm. It reduces redness and signs of swelling in the face. When you include this with the antiseptic qualities of honey, acne marks tend to fade over time.

After using the mask for about three days some signs of the benefits can be seen. You will immediately feel your skin has become softer and a bit more taut.

Do note that this mask may be too strong for a sensitive skin type. I do recommend everyone to test out this mask on a small portion of skin like your inner wrist to determine if this may irritate your skin.
