Hosting a party can be complicated. But hosting a successful party is simple. All too many people spend their energy obsessing over fancy napkins without concentrating on the basics first. Focus on these five essentials and your party will be off to a good start.
1. Strategically Arrange Tables and Chairs
Prior to the start of your party, set up tables and chairs to encourage eye contact. For instance, instead of having one long rectangular table, it would be better to situate several round tables together in a cluster. That way, as the party progresses, your guests have the opportunity to talk to the person in front, back and either side of them. Arranging tables and chairs in a way that doesn’t encourage interaction can be the root cause of a party flop.
2. Welcome Guests
You can make your guests feel comfortable in your home in a variety of ways. This can be everything from offering them a cool drink, to introducing them to others, to giving them a tour of your house. Be relaxed. The more relaxed you are, the more relaxed and comfortable your guests will be.
3. Spend Time with Guests
No one can host a party better than you. If you’re not available, then you’re not hosting. Your guests are missing you and you’re missing the party. Use strategies that will allow you to spend time with the people you’ve invited. Perhaps consider hiring a caterer or creating a menu to include foods that can be prepared ahead of time. Concentrate on doing as much as possible before your guests arrive so you’ll be free to spend time with them.
4. Start On Time
If you’re serving a meal, be sure to start on time. Leaving your guests hungry for two hours while waiting for late comers to arrive is not a good way to start the festivities. It’s also not respectful to your more punctual guests.
5. Serve Delicious Food and Drink
Everyone loves yummy things to eat and drink. This does not necessarily mean you have to spend a lot of money. You can stay within your budget by adjusting your menu. It’s better to serve great coffee and dessert rather than an entire mediocre meal. Also, make sure to have enough food for everyone.
Focus on these five principles before anything else and your party will be heading for success!
