Hot in Handcuffs

Hello, and welcome back! It's still warmer than I'd like, but I can see fall in the leaves changing colors in our neighborhood. Pretty soon, I'll actually have to break out my sweater or jacket to go to work in the mornings, and I can hardly wait!

This time out, I have the anthology Hot in Handcuffs (Berkley, purchased), with stories from Shayla Black, Sylvia Day, and Shiloh Walker. I bought this one for the Black, which kicks things off with "Arresting Desire" and FBI agent Jon Bocelli determined to have Lucia DiStefano, once and for all. Or rather, for always. Resisting her two years ago was nearly impossible, but he means to have her now, while they figure out one last puzzle her late criminal father left for her. Lucia has wanted him for a long time, but she can't believe Jon wants her for anything permanent, so she'll try her hardest to keep her heart out of their sensual encounters. Day's "On Fire" is next, with Jared Cameron hunting for an arsonist, and when he meets up with fire inspector Darcy Michaels sparks of another sort start flying. They waste no time steaming up the sheets, but someone nearby is not very happy about their new relationship. Walker's "The Unwilling" finishes off the collection with Colby Mathis in need of some assistance from his ex Mica Greer to solve a series of murders. Their relationship didn't end well, but starting up again is inevitable, and dangerous. If you picked this book up hoping for actual handcuffs, you're going to be disappointed. If you picked it up because you enjoy the authors inside it, you may still be disappointed. I was hoping for hotter from the Black story, which was my sole reason for buying this one. I actually enjoyed the Day story better, and I'm not a Day fan, though if you're even paying slight attention, you're going to know who the bad guy is very early on. I'll add this one to my Shayla Black keepers, but it's far from my favorite of her works. For the anthology, I'm borrowing only three of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
