Scandal - A New ABC Drama

If you're a politician who has found yourself in a very uncompromising position, call Olivia. Creator Shonda Rhimes strikes gold with the new hit drama, Scandal. Scandal stars Kerry Washington as the fast-talking, crisis management guru, Olivia Pope. The show centers around Olivia and her team protecting the public image of her top-of-the-line clients.

Olivia has extensive experience with "putting out fires". Her experience includes her last position working in the White House for the President (who she also had an affair with). She is clearly trying to leave her past behind her but she continues to get called back in by the President Fitzgerald Grant (who is played by Tony Goldwyn). It’s evident that they still have feelings for each other however the President is married so they are trying to end the affair.

With Olivia’s very diverse and interesting team, there is never a dull moment. Their combined background experience includes a lawyer, an investigator, a former CIA agent and a possible killer. It was very evident from the very first show that they can all be dangerous and they are all very loyal to Olivia.

The Pros

*Every week brings you a new case with action packed excitement. You won’t be bored.
*This isn’t a recycled show. It’s not something we’ve seen done before.
*The show is very believable. The show is actually loosely based on a real crisis manager who previously represented Monica Lewinsky during the Clinton scandal. Kerry Washington does a good job at gaining your buy-in early on.

The Cons

*The fast pace of the show sometimes makes you feel like you’re being rushed. Everything is happening so fast that it’s easy to miss something.
*Although the show is based in Washington DC and talks a lot about politics, the show focuses more on sex and romance. If you’re looking for a “West Wing” vibed show, then Scandal isn’t for you.
*The cases are random but the show definitely has a continuing storyline. If you aren’t big on watching every episode (or you can’t DVR a series), you can easily feel left out when you start watching again.

All in all, if you like the personal relationships from Grey’s Anatomy combined with the fast-paced feel of 24 while sitting at a big table from The West Wing, Scandal might be worth watching.

Scandal is in its second season and it comes on Thursdays on ABC.
