Assassin's Creed III

Assassin's Creed III brings the Assassin's Creed world into revolutionary times in the United States. You play primarily as a half-Native-American assassin, talking with Paul Revere and other historical figures.

Assassin's Creed III I live in Massachusetts, and we had taken a friend of ours on the Freedom Trail in Boston only a month or so ago. So it was quite fun to see all the locations we'd been to - Paul Revere's house, the Old North Church, and other places done in superb detail. We could recognize them as we walked up to them, and we know how they were located in relationship to each other. It's quite fun to have walked those very streets and to then see them in a game, as they would have been in that time period. Definitely for those who haven't visited Boston, I highly recommend making a trip after the game to see what they are like in reality.

Yes, there are odd problems in the gameplay. We were attacked by a ghostly axe which somehow came through a wall. Horses get stuck on top of their water troughs. There are some bizarre ragdoll physics going on. Sometimes the sound gets a bit repetitive if you have to replay missions.

But in general, the game is stunning. I love the little details in how the characters interact with each other. The attention to detail in the design of the houses is amazing. You get a real feel for how "mixed" the culture was back then, with settlers coming in from all locations and struggling to survive.

On one hand they dropped down the amount of gadgetry you play with. On the other hand they introduced massive naval battles, complete with rolling waves and enormous rogue waves that crash down on your hull. We could just play those naval battles for hours and be completely content.

Highly recommended. There are so many things I love about this game. The way the main character's outfit is a melding of the different cultures. The subtle moves in the cut scenes. The realistic locations. The variety of voices. I definitely recommend people play this, and then take a trip to Boston to see where it's all set.
