Things Your Dog Doesn't Want You to Know - Review

Have you ever wondered what your dog was thinking? You leave, and your dog knows you’re coming back. You may only be gone for a minute, but he jumps all over you when you walk through the door. Why? And why does he wag his tail? Of course, most people are curious about things like this, but how does your dog feel about the cute little name you blessed him with?

Find out the answers to the above questions and more in Things Your Dog Doesn't Want You to Know. The authors have somehow convinced eleven dogs to tell them just how they feel. Who are the authors? Hy Conrad is the writer/producer of the television series Monk. Jeff Johnson, a popular writer, was first successful working in New York advertising.

This hilarious book is, of course, told from the dog's point of view. Dogs of different ages and breeds tell us how they feel and think. So who are the dogs that let us in on their secret feelings?

Have you ever wondered what your dog's outlook would be on a job? Have you ever wondered if he would be able to keep on? Sarge, a German shepherd, has trouble staying gainfully employed. He was trained to sniff out drugs, but gained a fondness for eating pot when he finds it.

Sophie, an elderly cocker spaniel, still lives with the humans she has lived with since she was a puppy. Have you ever wondered why you have to walk your dog for so long before he/she will go to the bathroom? This is only one of the secrets Sophie reveals to us.

Charlie, a miniature schnauzer, was once homeless, but now he makes his home with six other dogs. He gives tips on dog walking, and lets us in on how our dogs stay occupied when home alone.

Orson, a bulldog, is obsessed with food. He tried to lose weight once, but discovered that diets don't work. Everything in this dog's life seems to center around food.

Moonbeam, a mutt, has survived a flood and now lives with a New Age follower. How does she feel about psychics? And how does she feel about her owner keeping her, a carnivore, on an all-vegetable diet?

Tinkerbell, a chihuahua, gains fame after falling off a ferry. She is assumed to be dead, but miraculously returns home. What happened? She also hates being dressed up in doggy costumes. And this may be a big surprise to a lot of people, but she has no desire to be a person.

Gabby, a long-haired dachshund, has reached the age where she is starting to notice guys. One minute she hates guys, and the next, well, I'm sure you can figure that one out.

Dimples, a boxer, has two youngsters that her humans are raising. According to her, they are not doing such a great job. Maybe her humans need to listen to her? Or maybe they just need to let her raise her own puppies?

Rufus T., a bloodhound, actually made friends with a duck and has come up with his own home remedy for fleas, if you dare to try it.

Bandana, a border collie, has an opinion about everything. He figures the house would fall apart if he wasn't around. He lets us in on how he feels about the mailman and why he wants to chase him away.

Axelrod, a yellow lab, has graduated at the top of his obedience school class. That is great, right? Well, yeah, but he has done so three different times.

I loved that almost every revelation from these dogs was hilarious. Yes, there are a few that are sad. Another awesome thing about this book is that each 'chapter' is only two pages long. Each wonderful secret revealed by each dog is a complete chapter, so you don't have to set aside long periods of time to read. This book can be read when you only have a couple of minutes, just enough time to see part of the world through a dog's eyes. And each 'chapter' is accompanied by a picture of the dog telling it.

I own three dogs – an Australian shepherd, a German shepherd, and a boxer/shepherd mix – and I have often wondered what goes through their minds, why they look at me the way they do, and why they react to things in certain ways. After reading and laughing my way through this book, I feel that I understand them just a bit better.

If you own any dogs, this book is a must for you. If you don't own any dogs, but love to laugh, you would enjoy reading it. Even if you hate dogs, I really feel that this book would entertain you.

I was sent a copy of this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review. If you would like a copy of this book to read and enjoy, I have provided an Amazon link below.
