One of the main reasons I moved to Portland was because of the food. I wanted to be in a city that catered to those who put extra thought into what they put in their mouths, and Portland delivered. The access to healthy, delicious fare still remains one of my favorite features of the city. Each year it seems more and more restaurants catering to the health-conscious crowd are opening up. And not only do these restaurants ensure their patrons get plenty of veggies, many of them also take food allergies and sensitivities into consideration. To me, that makes a restaurant extra special. It was exciting news when this California-based restaurant chain decided to set up camp in Portland. Native Foods is conveniently located off the I-5 corridor in the Bridgeport Village shopping plaza, so it’s perfect for RVers wanting a quick bite to eat while heading north or south through Portland. There’s a sassy gourmet twist on the dishes served at Native Foods; yet at the same time, it’s totally down home comfort food that any RVer will enjoy.
Fresh, fresh and super-duper fresh is the way I’d describe the food at Veggie Grill, another California-based restaurant chain that made its way to Portland. With three locations in the Portland metro area, there’s a good chance that you are going to be near a Veggie Grill while you’re fulfilling your exhilarating tourist obligations.
Back to Eden Bakery
If you’re going to eat the sweet stuff, there is no better place to visit than Back to Eden Bakery located at 2217 NE Alberta Street. This delightfully charming vegan, gluten-free bakery offers the best sweet treats around. From their sinfully delicious cakes and pastries, to their vast array of vegan ice cream options, there is no shortage of yummylicious desserts available. The bakery also features many soy-free options as well. If you’d rather eat some lunch or a light dinner before plowing into one of their delectable treats, they serve that too. Whether you fancy a savory tart, a mini quiche, a chickpea "tuna" wrap or gluten-free biscuits and gravy, just make sure you save room for dessert.
