We return to Lovecraft Middle Schools for another creepy adventure in The Slither Sisters. At the end of the first book in the series, Professor Gargoyle, twin sisters Sarah and Sylvia Price had returned to the school after their mysterious disappearance. But there is something different about them. Maybe the fact that they are hideous monsters in disguise has something to do with it. It could be because underneath their human appearances, they have snakes for hair.



The race is on to see who will be student council president, and Sarah Price is one of the candidates. From the way things look, she is pretty much guaranteed to win. But Robert is told to enter the race. Sarah only wants to lead the rest of the school into a trap for a mad scientist, and it is up to Robert and his friends, Glenn and Karina, to stop her. The other candidate seems destined to lose, even though he seems to have the best plans to improve the school.

The author, Charles Gilman, does a fantastic job of telling a creepy, engaging tale while keeping it fun enough so that it won’t give young kids nightmares. My grandson (he is 7) loves these books.

In this book there are snakes that appear in your bed, a ghost that lives in the school, a librarian who has ties with the mad scientist, and a pool that leads to another dimension where they find a creepy mansion inhabited by monsters. Of course, Robert still has his two-headed rat for a pet.

Just like the first book in the series, this one has an awesome lenticular cover that allows you to see Sarah and Sylvia Price transfer from normal girls to monsters with snakes for hair. Black and white pictures throughout the book show illustrate what is going on and help you to visualize events as the author has imagined them.
