Structure Improves ADD Symptoms

Each of us lives life in our own way. We have different responsibilities. Our free time is spent on our own terms. When a person has Attention Deficit Disorder, it is easy for life to devolve into chaos if you donít have structure. The many areas to add structure into lifeís activities are as individual as each of our lives. However, with the creative, out-of-the-box problem solving that living with Attention Deficit Disorder confers on each of us, we have the skills to make our lives better by creatively adding structure where it is needed.

Adding structure takes time and analysis. It also takes a plan. If you are easily distracted, these can be difficult steps. So, make a plan to help you develop your plan. Decide what you have to do and put it on a timeline. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you need it to be. I would spend at least a couple of hours on analysis. My question would be, ďWhat do I need to change to make my life better?Ē This doesnít have to be completed on one day. In fact, analyzing over several days might help your creative mind to process the question better and find more ideas for making changes.

You will find those individual areas that need to have structure built in. For many of us, we must put a plan in place to improve sleep, nutrition, taking care of your money, and housekeeping. Letís start with some simple ideas for these areas, and then you add your own touches.

Sleep Getting the proper sleep allows for better concentration. If you have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep, you need to research good sleep hygiene and practice it. There is an article in the related links that can help add structure to getting enough rest.

Nutrition Research has shown that the type and amount of food that we put into our bodies determine how well that they function. People with Attention Deficit Disorder canít afford to ignore good nutrition. Studies in 2012 indicate that eating foods that are less processed can improve the symptoms of ADD. Adding fish oil to the diet also improves brain functioning.

Plan your meals so that you donít end up eating junk food. Carry a healthy snack, and you will be less tempted to stop at that fast food restaurant. Keep a supply of these snacks available. I use a low calorie juice pack. When you plan meals, you can also save money. You wonít waste uneaten food. You can deliver great nutrition to you and your family. If you donít stop for fast food, you also save money.

Taking Care of Your Money Every dollar counts! Small amounts of money add up. Taking charge of your grocery bill by planning meals is crucial. This is one place where planning can save you large amounts of money.

Use electronic banking to simplify bill paying. There is a link to an article about bill paying at the bottom of the page. When bills are paid on time, you can literally save hundreds of dollars in late fees over the course of a year. Paying bills on time also helps to raise your credit score. When you borrow money, people with higher credit scores typically pay less for loans. Again, this can save you thousands of dollars.

Housekeeping Decide how neat and clean that you want your house. After that, make a plan to keep it that way. Having a neat and clean house lowers your stress levels. Itís worth doing. Only you know the areas in your life that need structure. Start with these four areas, if they need structure, and expand to include other parts of your life that you want to improve. Lowering your stress level by improving areas of your life that are chaotic can greatly improve your quality of life with ADD.
