Blood Promise - a Review

Blood Promise was written by Randy Daudlin, who has worked as a special effects make-up artist for over 28 years. His first published book takes us into the realm of vampires.

The story takes place in the booming nightlife of Toronto, Canada. Reg Martin is a cop who has some issues. Years ago his partner Phil was killed, or at least Reg thought he had been killed. Phil has been haunting him in his dreams. Phil blames Reg for what happened to him. He blames Reg for allowing him to be turned into a vampire. But Reg doesn’t believe that vampires exist. Still, he is more or less accepting the blame and has a pretty bad fear of vampires coming to get him. He stays in places that are brightly lit and keeps his apartment that way as well. He turned to alcohol, his marriage was destroyed, and he just isn’t trusted much by the other cops. But then he is asked back to help with finding a serial murderer. It seems that the victims have been drained of all their blood.

His investigations lead him to a nightclub, The Afterlife. Here Reg finds Lleha. She just happens to be a vampire queen with a lot of very bloodthirsty, loyal followers.

Reg notices that he is being followed around by a black Porsche. Who is after him? He soon discovers that he and the Frenchman, the driver of this mysterious car, are on the same side. Both are after Lleha. Their reasons may be different, but their goals are the same. The Frenchman is able to give Reg the knowledge he seeks and more. Will they be able to stop Lleha and her followers?

I am a fan of vampire stories, and I absolutely loved this one. If you like vampire stories, this one will not disappoint you. The characters so believable they make you wonder if there are really are vampires walking amongst us. If vampires really did exist and live among us, I could easily see the events in this story taking place.

Please realize that since this is a vampire book, there is plenty of action, blood, gore, violence, and colorful language to go along with it. If you have a weak stomach, I really wouldn’t recommend reading this one. But if you like good vampire stories, then this one is highly recommended.

The ending leads me to believe that there is more of this story yet to come. I have a feeling that life is about to get even more interesting for Reg Martin.
