The Wizards Return, part II

This is the second part of the synopsis of The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex. Check out part I to find out what you've missed!

In part one of this article, we find Alex in a cell waiting for her death sentence to be carried out. The situation seems hopeless, but all is not lost! Through his carelessness, Dominick has accidentally and unknowingly cracked the crystal holding Mason’s mortal soul- thus, he is able to escape. He does so, and goes to rescue good Alex. Together, they go back to the Leaning Tower of Pisa to find bad Alex and Dominick, and the battle ensues. Bad Alex flashes out and good Alex follows her; Mason stays and fights Dominick, but gets knocked out. Good Alex, thinking she has defeated bad Alex, flashes back to the Tower and resumes the spell to release the souls. Dominick throws the bracelet off the tower at the same moment, effectively trying to kill all those trapped inside. They are released just as the bracelet passes the edge; good Alex moves quickly to grab them to stop them from falling and pulls them back to safety. Mason revives just as Dominick tries to flirt with good Alex, so he pushes him off of the top of the tower (killing him). Bad Alex flashes back. Good Alex uses a spell that will take away her powers forever, eradicating bad Alex and reuniting both parts of herself.

Alex and everyone else are then flashed back to the Crystals of Justice, who decide that because of her selflessness in giving up her powers to save humanity, her death sentence will be lifted. They also give her back her powers, claiming that she’s earned them, having proven herself as a mature, grateful wizard.

So why the return? Sources say that Selena Gomez (who produced the episode) missed playing Alex and wanted to reprise the role one more time. Personally, I think its Disney’s attempt to win back some viewers- some of its best shows ended around the same time, and with the new shows, the ratings just haven’t been the same. In any case, Alex vs. Alex was a pleasant diversion and a trip down memory lane, and it’s good to see Selena Gomez back on the screen. Check it out if you get the chance!
