The Homecare Providers Union has come through again with lawsuits to temporarily stop 20% cuts to IHSS. While the Union is working to rebuild the IHSS program they agreed to extend the current 3.6% cut for another year.
To my knowledge this is the second extension to that initial cut. On top of that there will be a new 4.4% cut in hours/pay to IHSS starting July 2013. This brings our total cut to 8 percent.
Prior to the current 3.6% cut monthly hours were 195, now set at 188. When the new cut goes into effect monthly hours will be 180. According to the Settlement Agreement in July 2014 the cut will be dropped to a total of 7%, giving workers one percent back in their hours/pay.
I hope the cuts can get turned around by 2015 at the latest. How many more adults with disabilities will be in the system by that date?
Some counties in the State of California are utilizing the new payroll system. Details can be found here on when this will be rolled out in other counties throughout the State.
The state Medi-Cal program and the federal Medicare program are partnering to launch a three-year demonstration starting in 2013 that would promote coordinated health care delivery to seniors and people with disabilities who are dually eligible for both of the public health insurance programs, “dual eligible beneficiaries.”
