This past weekend I spent some time in Fort Worth to visit my son Russ, wife Jackie and daughter Katie and her family. It included a round of golf at the Ridglea Golf and Country Club. Russ had emailed me that morning that he had a twelve oíclock tee time so had to hurry and pack up all my stuff and hit the freeway. I made it by eleven so Jackie and I drove over to the golf course as Russ was to meet us there. This is Russ on the first hole which he made par.
Ridglea golf course the one I play is their north course for all members, they do have another 18 hole course that is Menís only. There arenít many of those kinds of golf courses available but their main golf course and club house is where we play. Ridglea Country Club has a long history in Fort Worth, it was first a public golf course but had dreams of expanding to someday be a recreation center in the Ridglea area. Clayton Luther bought the course and vowed to build Ridglea into the finest country club to be a place of distinction for quality and dignity that hallmarks Ridglea. It was first called Western Hills Country Club of Ridglea but in 1954 the name changed to Ridglea Country Club. This country club has celebrated 50 years as an elegant club for past, present and future.
It is always a treat to play this golf course Russ and Jackie have been members here since they lived in Fort Worth. Since I have not played much golf this winter I played the full 18 holes but did not keep score. I love this par three hole their #3 hole on the front side. The many times I have played the course have not been able to get the ball on the green with the drive. The greens on this hole are very tricky but all the greens on the course are fast and in great shape. The whole course is beautiful, they even had flowers planted around the course but an early frost got to some of them.
On Sunday afternoon Russ and Jackie had made reservations for all of us to have their Easter Brunch which is always a show piece. They made the reservation for 1:30 p.m. after the first seating was finished and new tables prepared for the afternoon. There were four stations of food starting with shrimp and appetizers, next came the salad bar, on to the main entrees and finally the dessert station. It was so hard to choose as everything looked so tasty. I tried to be careful but it did not last and was able to sample many things. It was so satisfying that could not eat another thing until I returned back to Salado on Monday. Great weekend and great golf course.
