Zettai Boei Leviathan

Zettai Boei Leviathan is based on a Japanese mobile game by GREE.

The series is set on a peaceful planet called Aquafall. Meteorites have been blasting through the atmosphere toward this planet, and the meteorites have been bringing a species that threatens all the living creatures of Aquafall with extinction.

A fairy named Syrop senses the danger to the planet, and takes on a journey to try to find warriors from the three dragon clans to help her fight against this threat. She finds three young women who seem to fit her needs: Jormungand, Bahamut, and Leviatan.

In the first episode, Leviatan serves the purpose of being the main character. We learn that she has water abilities, and that her older brother has left the village without getting word to his sister as to where he has gone. After she meets Syrop, we learn that Leviatan and the others live in a peaceful village and don't realize the threat that Syrop senses.

Jormungand and Bahamut have a quick chance meeting with Leviatan at the beginning of the episode, Leviatan sees Jormungand briefly around midway through the episode, and then the three of them and Syrop have a chance meeting at an eating establishment. The girls end up in a fight involving three men that Syrop accidentally angered while she was in the village.

The first episode spends a lot of screen time trying to establish the main characters and what brings them together. Unfortunately, the execution of the first episode ends up giving the story a slow pacing, and I was rather bored for most of the episode. Hopefully future episodes of the series will improve the story's pacing issue. There were also times in the episode where it felt as if the writers had intended for some scenes or lines of dialogue to be humorous; unfortunately, I didn't find much of what I saw in this episode to be terribly funny.

The characters in Zettai Boei Leviathan have a rather cute and "moe" look to them. There is some minor "fanservice" included in some of the visuals, but the "fanservice" isn't terribly "in your face." Viewers who enjoy anime with these kind of cute character designs may be able to enjoy the first episode by focusing on the visuals.

Zettai Boei Leviathan isn't necessarily a bad series, per se. However, by the end of the first episode, there was nothing to make me want to rush out and watch more episodes of the series as they become available for viewing on streaming services. In the end, I thought that the series was just OK. However, if you enjoy these kind of anime series or this kind of a storyline, then you might find enjoyment in it.

After watching the first episode, I would personally recommend Zettai Boei Leviathan to anime viewers who are 12 or 13 years of age and older.
