Allergy season hit me HARD this year. How did I know that April started? My eyes and nose started itching like crazy and the non-stop sneezing commenced, AKA, allergy season for Leah. Now for some reason, right now there's been a little reprieve. We had a ton of rain and my guess is this cleared out the majority of the pollen (except the bunch that landed in my car the night I decided to drive home with the top down. I've never been hit in the face with that much pollen before!)
Just to be on the safe side though, there are a few things that I'm going to do to make sure my body is a little bit stronger if/when the pollen hits again.
The first thing I'm boning up on is Vitamin C. Vitamin C is one of those essential nutrients that your body needs for a ton of reasons. In the realm of allergy prevention, Vitamin C's ability as an antioxidant is its shining asset. Anti-oxidants help protect your body from stress. Think of allergies as a stress response (constricted vessels and passageways) and you can see the benefit.
Ways to get the C. Of course, orange juice always works as well as popping some vitamin C pills. This can be more fun though! Think Kale soup (green, leafy foods are super high in vitamin c!), Orange infused water, homemade lemonade! Way more fun right ;-) .
Stinging Nettle Leaf Tea. Stinging Nettles is a favorite tea of mine for a lot of reasons. It tastes super great with honey for one. This is always a nice plus because medicinal teas can sometimes lack in the flavor department :-) . Two, it's wonderful for women because of its high iron content and it gives great support to the immune system through its potent anti-inflammatory properties. And as a wise woman herbalist, this plant is dear to my heart because its generally considered an unwanted, unruly weed. And yet it's so healing! If only more people knew that ;-) .
So hopefully, my self-defense tips will be of some help to you! It's really about fortifying your body so that when it does get bombarded with funk, it can work its way through it :)
