Bullied - A Review

Katherine Mayfield has done it once again!

The award winning author of “The Box of Daughter: Healing the Authentic Self,” “Acting A to Z,” “Smart Actors/ Foolish Choices,” and “Dysfunctional Families: The Truth Behind the Happy Family Façade” has just released her latest addition to her list of inspiring literary works. Her latest book, “Bullied: Why You Feel Bad Inside and What To Do About It” is an intriguing and helpful guide to help those who have been tormented by bullies and those who are bullies themselves.

The subject of bullying is one that is greatly important to the Teen site. It is one that is very significant for me as well. Katherine Mayfield’s latest work is a smart and relatable piece of information that educates the reader on how to recognize bullying and just what to do about it when it occurs. The book’s encouraging message of combating those who belittle and persecute others simply because they think “they can” is one the reader can share with anyone he meets.

The book begins with a foreword by Director of Education for the Blaze My Trail Youth Program Michelle Baker and a stirring introduction by Katherine Mayfield herself. Along with helpful and encouraging information that will help the reader understand and cope with being bullied, the book has inspiring quotes from many wise historical figures like Benjamin Franklin, St. Catherine of Siena, and even Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Dedicated to those who have committed suicide in response to bullying like Tyler Clementi, Bailey O’Neill, and Amanda Todd, Katherine Mayfield’s “Bullied: Why You Feel Bad Inside and What To Do About It” offers valuable instructions on how to recognize and seek guidance for various forms of bullying like “verbal abuse,” “physical abuse,” and even “emotional abuse.”

Mayfield’s book also offers great solace and encouragement for those who may be lacking in confidence or even self-esteem caused by being tormented by those who feel the need to take out their frustrations on others.

“Bullied” teaches the reader to, not only stay strong, but to seek someone who will help you realize that you are someone special who is destined for a life of happiness and the utmost fulfillment.

With a four step process on how to properly express certain emotions in a healthy and positive way, “Bullied” offers insightful information on how bullies themselves can recognize the source of their frustrations and seek healing in the process so they can discontinue their inappropriate behavior towards others.

There are also interviews with those who have experienced and conquered the effects of bullying, along with links to websites, videos, books, and hotlines that can help cope with distress, anger, and any other emotion you may be feeling.

Essentially, “Bullied: Why You Feel Bad Inside and What To Do About It” is another home run for Katherine Mayfield! It’s relatable, informative, and highly relevant to the epidemic of bullying that is plaguing the lives of young people today.

I highly recommend this book! Let’s support Katherine Mayfield in her effort to express the dangers of bullying and the benefits of emotional intelligence! The future of our young people depends on our willingness and courage. As Michelle Baker eloquently stated in her interview on how to recover from bullying, “And remember, one day, your story, your art, your voice, your life just might be exactly what another person needs in order to choose life” (65).
